Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs. Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Specs and Legal Battles

Are you deciding between the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus?

iphone 6 plus samsung galaxy note 4There are those of us that did not make a mile-long queue at MTN, Cell C, Telkom Mobile or Vodacom for the Note 4 or iPhone 6 Plus that are still considering buying either. With the two company’s locked in a constant stream of legal battles over patents, it really is intriguing to know which one comes out on top.
The companies fought voraciously over the “bounce back” feature that Samsung claimed to invent, a battle that Apple Inc. lost. Samsung lost to Apple in German courts due to an “impression of similarity” between the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Apple’s iPad range in August 2011; in an appeal in Dutch courts Samsung won.

The companies fought over the look of their photo galleries, more design features and basically anything they could sling at each other due to the precious market share each product could gain. Consumers however are simply looking for the best features on their phones and most of the time are tied to the brand identity of their phone manufacturers. Nevertheless here are the specs.

For starters the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has a larger and clearer display that the iPhone 6 Plus. Packing a 5.7” QHD display, the Note 4 has a bigger, crystal clear display when compared to the 5.5”1080p of the iPhone 6 Plus. The Note 4 has a better front “selfie camera” that is 3.7 MP, versus the mingy 1.2MP afforded by the iPhone 6 Plus. The rear camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has double the picture quality at 16MP as opposed to the iPhones 8MP.

For those of you who want you phone to fit in your skinny jeans better the iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1mm thick versus the 8.5mm of the Galaxy. This would be an impressive feat for Apple if the iPhone didn’t bend in the pockets of some consumers. The biggest benefit is the option to insert memory cards into the Note 4. The iPhone 6 Plus is locked at 16GB or 128GB only.

While the battery life of the iPhone 6 Plus is said to match that of the Note 4, this is quite hard to believe keeping in mind the extensive power saving options that the Android operating system offers users.

A breakdown of the above would look something like this:

Being iPhone’s first phablet, the company has not done bad in creating a high-end user device even tough it leans heavily on its powerful brand identity and ingenuous look and feel to make sales. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 however easily claims first prize when it comes to features, camera and display quality and its awesome stylus and NFC remote that can control your television, DStv, air conditioner and much more.
