Google Wants More than Just Auto Insurance Cuts

Tech enthusiasts are flabbergasted by the diagonal integration of Google into the auto insurance market with Google compare.

google insuranceThis is just the tip of the iceberg if you look deeper into the services that Google Compare wants to offer to consumers. If we look to Google Compare that is currently running in the UK, there are already two different tiers of comparison tools on offer, which are Insurance and Money. The insurance comparison tool (which is its official name) allows consumers to compare different car and travel insurance offers to choose the one that suits them best. The money comparison tool does the same with credit cards, mortgages, and banking. Companies such as Admiral, Chaucer Direct and KwikFit Insurance Services have already jumped on the bandwagon in the UK since its launch in 2012.

This speaks of a much more copious haul of internet market share than just online auto insurance cuts! What’s more, given the companies intensive semantic search capabilities that it provides to users on a simple Google search query, one can only imagine the intelligence behind the searches that a user makes.

While Ellen Carney’s blog at Forrester.com, the original source of the revelation of Google Compare in the US, says that it may have been difficult for Google to launch this project as it has been in the works for the last two years, the project is set to launch in the first quarter of 2015 with approval in over 25 states in the US.

Carney suggests that the lack of insurance experience amongst key internal stakeholders in the company may be beneficial in terms of the amount of attention to detail they put into their product, one can’t help but be skeptical about this as this seems counterintuitive. One is hired for how little they know about an industry after all.
